The birth of Sri Dutt, who incarnates on the full moon (full moon) of the Hindu lunar month, the month of Mrigashira is celebrated as Datta Jayanti. In past eras, atrocities of demonic forces increased drastically; Therefore, Sri Dattatreya incarnated in various ways and destroyed the demons.

Datta Jayanti is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Margashirsha month according to the Hindu calendar, Panchang. On this day, devotees get up early, bathe in the bodies of holy water, and have darshan early in the day. Devotees offer specific flowers, incense sticks, lamps and sweets to Lord Dutt during the puja archana. Devotees also sing devotional songs, recite devotional books, and chant mantras like "Sri Guru Dattatreya Namah" or Om Sri Gurudev Dutt.

History:

Dattatreya was the son of sage Atri and his wife Anasuya. The fanatic and virtuous wife Anasuya performed severe penance (penance) of the father to a son of Hindu male Trimurti (Trimurti) Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva with the same qualities. Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati, Trimurti Devi (Tridevi) and the wife of the male Trimurti, became jealous. She deputed her husband to test her qualities.

The three gods appeared in front of Ansuya disguised as Sannyasi (sannyasi) and asked him to give naked alms. Anasuya was stopped for a while, but was soon remodeled. He sprinkled a mantra and water over three spells, turning them into babies. Then he bathed them with his naked milk, as he wished. When Atri returned to his ashram (ashram), Anasuya narrated the incident, which he already knew through his psychic powers. He embraced three children with his heart, transforming them into a single child with three heads and six hands.

As the trio of gods did not return, their wives became worried and reached Ansuya. The deities apologized and asked him to return her husband. Anasuya accepted their request. Then Trimurti appeared in his real form, before Atri and Anasuya, and blessed them with a Dattatreya son.

Although Dattatreya is considered to be a form of the three deities, he is specifically considered to be an incarnation of Vishnu, while his brothers, Chandra Dev and Rishi Durvasa, are considered as Brahma and Shiva respectively.

Datta Jayanti rituals and celebrations:

Like other pujas, devotees wake up early, bathe in bodies of holy water and have darshan early in the day. Typical flowers, incense sticks, lamps and sweets are offered during the puja ceremony. One should sing devotional songs and read devotional books like Avadhoot Geeta and Jeevanmukta Geeta. While bidding, one should apply sandalwood, vermilion and turmeric paste to the idol or picture of the deity.

It is also important that after the puja starts, devotees take seven circles around the idol of Lord Dutta to distribute prasadam and aarti to everyone in the puja. Chanting of mantras like "Sri Guru Dattatreya Namah" or Om Sri Gurudev Dutt is quite beneficial for purity in mind and soul.
