Swami Vivekananda Jayanti

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti: Swami Vivekananda, one of India's most revered spiritual leaders, was born on 12 January 1863 in Kolkata as Narendra Nath Dutt. It was in 1887 that he, along with other disciples of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, made a formal vow of renunciation and renounced worldly pleasures.

He was frequently attacked by doubts about the existence of God, with a particular interest in Western philosophy and history. Through his speeches and lectures, Vivekananda attempted to awaken religious consciousness among the people and also to raise the oppressed using the principles of practical Vedanta.

His Message

To take his message to a wider audience, Vivekananda also attended the World Religion Parliament in Chicago in 1893. His distinguished speech there, which touched on issues such as universal acceptance, tolerance and religion, gave him a great opportunity in Parliament.

Who was Swami Vivekananda?

Swami Vivekananda was a Hindu monk and one of the most famous spiritual leaders in India. It was more than just a spiritual mind; He was a sharp thinker, a great orator and a passionate patriot. He continued the philosophy of free thinking of his Guru Ramakrishna Paramahamsa towards a new paradigm. He worked tirelessly towards the betterment of society, devoted his whole life to his country, in the service of the poor and the needy.  His message of universal fraternity and self-awakening remains relevant, especially in the current context of widespread political upheaval around the world. Vivekananda's teachings have been an inspiration to many, and his words have become targets of self-improvement, especially for the nation's youth. For this reason, his birthday on 12 January is celebrated as National Youth Day in India.
