Maharishi Parashuram Jayanti 2020:

Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated in Hindu mythology as the birth anniversary of Maharishi Parshuram, considered the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In the states of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana, it is celebrated on 25 April, Saturday in 2020. In the states of Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, 26 April is celebrated on Sunday 2020.

History:

According to Hindu belief, Parashurama still lives on earth, unlike all other incarnations. Therefore, unlike Rama and Krishna, Parashurama is not worshiped. In southern India, near Udupi, at the holy site of Pazaka, there is an important temple commemorating Parasurama. There are many temples on the west coast of India dedicated to Lord Parasurama.

The Kalki Purana states that the tenth and final incarnation of Lord Vishnu will be the martial guru of Sri Kalki. This is not the first time that the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu will be met by any other avatar. According to the Ramayana, Parashurama came to the engagement ceremony of Sita and Lord Rama and met the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

According to legend, Mahishmati Nagri, a region in central India, was ruled by King Kshatriyas and their kingdom Kshatriyas.

Prithvi Devi was so concerned about the evil deeds of the king that she sought help from Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu said that he would be born as the son of Renuka and sage Jamadagni and destroy the kingdom. Vishnu was reborn as the great warrior Parashurama (Rama with an ax) and defeated the king and the Kshatriyas, restoring peace to the earth.

Significance of Parashuram Jayanti:

Dating back to the Dwapara era, he was a Brahmin warrior who was a great disciple of Lord Shiva. Parashurama possessed the legendary Parshu ax. He was the patron of the characters of Mahabharata Dronacharya, Bhishma and Karna.

According to a legend, Lord Vishnu in his Parashurama incarnation ended the betrayal of the Kshatriya caste and defeated the demon king Kirtanarjuna. He restored peace and religion on earth. The day of Parashuram Jayanti has a special religious meaning. Devotees keep fast throughout the day and worship Lord Vishnu to seek his blessings.

Celebrations and Rituals:

Devotees stay on fast till the night before the day of Parashuram Jayanti. They visit temples and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu. Devotees wake up at night and recite the Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra.
