Rishi Valmiki, the Adi Kavi or the first poet, is the author of the Hindu epic Ramayana. His birthday is celebrated as Valmiki Jayanti. He also appears as one of the characters, as a monk who received Lord Rama's wife Sita in his sermon and taught his sons Luv and Kush during his exile. Born as Ratnakar Born as a Brahmin named Pracheta, he grew up to become a sage. With years of meditative practice, he remained so much that ants built hills around him. It is for this reason that it was given the name of Valmiki, meaning to be born of anthill.
